Woman, 73, dies after hit by tow truck
A 73-year-old woman died after she was hit by a tow truck in southwest Houston.
Houston police said the woman was hit as the tow truck driver pulled out of a grocery store parking lot on Bellaire Boulevard near South Gessner about 3:20 p.m. Monday.
Detectives said the woman tripped and fell, and the tow truck driver did not see the woman.
The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where she died. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified her as Huiqiong Guan.
Residents said the woman's death has reminded them how dangerous walking down the street can be.
"We've got some crazy drivers in Houston," high school student Sheena Emerson said. "You know how they are. They just be zooming going past and they don't be looking."
Emerson said pedestrians can never be too careful, especially when walking with their children.
"If you're walking across the street with your kids, just make sure you look both ways," Emerson said. "Don't look once -- look like three times just to make sure."
There are limited crosswalks along the busy stretch of road. There is one near Strake Jesuit High School, which is close to the scene of the incident.
The driver of the tow truck was not charged.
