Suspect Claims Innocence

A man accused of impersonating an officer turned himself in and posted bond, but he should not have been released at all, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.

Weylin Spradley, 25, surrendered to authorities on Friday.

According to Houston police, Spradley posted a $5,000 bond. However, because he is accused of violating his parole, he should not have been allowed to post bond.

Investigators said Spradley violated his parole when he was caught impersonating an officer for a second time.

Officer said Spradley outfitted his 2003 white Chevrolet Impala to appear as an official patrol car. He also wears a uniform with official-looking emblems. The emblems on Spradley's uniform and vehicle read South Ridge Emergency Services, which police said does not exist.

Spradley is on parole and was previously convicted of impersonating a public servant.

He said Friday that police have it all wrong.

"They tried the same stuff back in 2001. They got me to convict -- to take probation and from there, I lost it. But, this time, I've done nothing wrong. I didn't do anything wrong back then, but I was younger and I was scared. This time I’m going to fight them," Spradley said.

Spradley said he was only trying to start his own business selling security equipment.

His court date is scheduled for Friday.
