A man arrested and charged with trying to attack a teacher at a Spring Branch elementary school was on parole for rape, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

Officials Spring Branch Independent School District said the man entered Westwood Elementary School on Shadowdale Drive at Helmsdale Street at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday by telling a teacher that he was looking for his nephew.

The teacher said the man attacked her and began ripping her clothes off as she escorted him to the school's main office.

School officials said the teacher escaped the attack without injury.

Officers with the SBISD and Houston police departments arrested Mark Francis Connelly, 24, a short time later at a nearby apartment complex.

Security guard Jose Escobar cornered Connelly in a laundry room and kept him there until police arrived.

"This is not the first time I got into a situation like this. I've had worse situations where we had worse problems," Escobar said.

Connelly was charged with attempted sexual assault.

The man is scheduled to stand trial next month on the rape charge. He is being held without bond.

Security was beefed up at the school Friday. Letters were sent home with parents.
