HOUSTON -- Officials at a U.S. Post Office in Katy said they are investigating as many as 40 cases of stolen mail, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Officers with the Katy Police Department and post office officials said a bandit has been following mail carriers and then stealing mail.
Police said once the bandit, who they suspect is a woman, has stolen personal information from the victims, like their credit card numbers.
One woman told KPRC Local 2 that she had almost $900 charged to her account.
"They also got three $50 checks each. I'm waiting to find out if they cashed those checks," victim Cindy Thompson said.
The thief racked up bills at places like Whataburger and Spec's Liquor.
The post office is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and the filing of charges in this case.
Anyone with information should contact the postal inspector at (713) 238-4400.
