HOUSTON -

Six Houston Fire Department ambulances are being pulled from the streets.

It's all part of an ongoing budget battle between the city and its firefighters. An HFD spokesperson tells Local 2 that those units will go off the clock staring Saturday at 6:30 a.m.

This comes after the Houston City Council denied an $8.5 million request to increase funding. Medics who are assigned to those trucks will be reassigned to other positions in an effort to cut down overtime.

An HFD spokesperson says the six ambulances will be out of service until budgetary needs are met.
