Thieves Steal Family's Christmas

Mothers Return To Burglarized Apartment After Taking Kids To Doctor

UPDATED: 5:53 pm CST December 21, 2005

Gifts were stolen from under a family's Christmas tree Tuesday after thieves broke into their southwest Houston apartment, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The family arrived home Tuesday afternoon to find their Park Place Apartment burglarized and trashed by thieves.

"The gifts were gone. Sofa (cushions) were flipped inside out. The plants and tree were thrown all over the floor. They stole a couple of items from the house. They stole TVs, VCRs, everything," burglary victim Tiffany Olea told KPRC Local 2. "I was shocked because this never happened to us before. Basically, they just trashed the apartment and took the presents."

Olea and her sister, Jezelle Vargas, said they found the mess when they returned home from taking their children to a doctor.

"I was really mad. I was upset because they stole all my kids' gifts and I barely bought those with my money. I had it on layaway since October. I already got them out. So, I was really angry," Vargas said.

Olea and Vargas said they are not sure what to do to save Christmas. The mothers said the thieves got away with at least 15 presents meant for their six children, who are between 3 months old and 4 years old.

The mothers filed a police report and are hope the thieves are found.
