HOUSTON -- A night of playing on train tracks fatally ended for a northeast Harris County boy, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
Investigators said a train struck and killed a boy shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday as he and two of his friends were playing on a train that was parked on train tracks near Lindstrom Road and Crosby-Dayton Road.
"When they come out from underneath the train, one boy was carrying a bicycle and two of them made it across the track, the third one didn't see the Amtrak train, and was struck by the Amtrak train," Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Wiley Hogue told KPRC Local 2.
The kids ran to a nearby church in Crosby and called 911.
Paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene. His identity and age have not been released.
The victim's friends were not injured.
