HOUSTON -- Some called for the resignation of Seabrook's Mayor Pro-Tem Tuesday night after he allegedly made a racist remark during a recent board meeting, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Seabrook city councilwoman Dee Wright asked Mayor Pro-Tem John Buhman to resign Tuesday after he used the term "tar baby" during the August city council meeting.
Buhman said he used the term to describe a piece of property that would be difficult to develop. He read several definitions of the term, saying it was used to describe a tricky situation and was not used as a racial slur.
"I apologize to anyone who took offense to what I said, and you can rest assured I will use anything but that term from now on," Buhman said at the meeting Tuesday night.
Wright also accused Buhman of insulting Jewish people during a different meeting; however, Buhman said his words were taken out of context then as well.
