PASADENA, Texas -- It's been five weeks since Hurricane Katrina and nearly two weeks since Hurricane Rita, but the need for help is still great, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
The Pasadena Salvation Army said it needs your time more than money or supplies.
The facility on Fairmont Parkway is asking for volunteers.
About 600 families in need visit the facility every day and it does not show signs of slowing down. But what has slowed down are the volunteers and supplies.
"We are so low in volunteers. We could use 300 a day," said Mechelle Henry, with the Salvation Army.
But the facility has less than that these days. Many of the volunteers are not coming back after giving a week or two of work. But the need is still there.
"I feel strongly that you need to give back and stay and help as long as you can," volunteer Sue Stephens said.
Stephens had not planned on volunteering every day for the past month. But hearing the hurricane victims' stories each day gives her reasons to keep coming back.
"A lady came through and she was crying. I gave her a hug and said it's OK and told her we were here to help. That's what we're here for," she said.
Anyone who would like to help is asked to go to the Salvation Army Center that is in the old Wal-Mart, located at 5950 Fairmont Parkway.
