5-year-old struck, killed by vehicle in NE Houston

HOUSTON – A 5-year-old boy was killed Friday after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Houston, police said.

The incident was reported at 3:20 p.m. in the 7600 block of Bywood Street.

Houston police said the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox was traveling at a slow speed due to the number of vehicles parked on both sides of the street. Police said the child entered the street and was struck by the Chevrolet.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene until officials arrived.

The 5-year-old was taken to Lydon B. Johnson General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver was questioned and released. Police said the driver showed no signs of intoxication.

No charges have been filed.

The incident is under investigation.
