5 people escape early-morning house fire

HOUSTON – A family of five got out just in time as a fire swept through their home Saturday morning, firefighters said.

According to officials, around 3 a.m. a fire broke out at the home while four people were inside asleep.

The family was able to get out of the house near Canal Street and North York Street, while firefighters quickly put the fire out.

Firefighters said there was minimal damage to the house.

The Houston Arson detectives investigating the fire said they found a gas can sitting near a fuse box, which may have been the cause of the fire.

Firefighters said there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
