HOUSTON -

Fourteen Houston firefighters were injured while battling a deadly hotel fire Friday afternoon.

They were all rushed to area hospitals; twelve of them were transported in stable condition and one in critical condition.

"One of the firefighters who was injured is in critical condition here and will be in the burn ICU unit," said Mayor Annise Parker.

Details about the other injuries were not released but Local 2 was told they include heat exhaustion, chest pain and leg cramps.

Five of the injured firefighters were identified as Engineer operator Anthony Livesay, Firefighter EMT Robert Yarbrough, Firefighter EMT Foster Santos, Engineer Operator and Paramedic Marcus Hernandez and Captain William Dowling. The other injured firefighters were not identified.

"Take a moment to think what the job of a firefighter is and the dangers that they face everyday," Parker said.
