A 3-year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital Monday night after nearly drowning in a pool at her Sugar Land home.

The Sugar Land Fire Department was called to the home on Carriage Point Drive.

Neighbors tell Local 2 the child got into trouble with her floaties.

Deputies have not revealed if the child was being supervised or if she was alone when she went under.
She was reportedly unconscious, but breathing when firefighters arrived.

A medical helicopter was called in to transport the girl.

Neighbors said they saw the child before she was taken to the hospital. At that time, she was coughing up water.

The girl was said to be awake and on the road to recovery as of Tuesday morning.  She is breathing on her own and is expected to be in the ICU for another 24 hours.
