Shelby Resigns As U.S. Attorney

Prosecutor To Reenter Private Practice To Fund Daughters' Educations

Local 2 has learned that the top federal prosecutor for southeast Texas, Michael Shelby, has resigned as U.S. attorney.

President George W. Bush appointed Shelby in December 2001.

Shelby staff members told Local 2 that the attorney said he needed to reenter private practice so that he can fund his two daughters' college educations.

Shelby has not yet announced where he will work.
