HOUSTON -- A purse-snatching suspect was run over by a patrol car Wednesday morning as he tried to run from police, officials told Local 2.

Officials arrested the man and a woman, accusing them of stealing a purse from a Pearland Wal-Mart and leading police on a chase.

After abandoning their van on Highway 288 between Orem Drive and Airport Boulevard, the couple tried to flee on foot, police said.

However, a patrol unit ran over the man as he ran through a field near a Houston Community College campus.

Despite being run over, the suspect only received a scrape on his knee.

During the chase, police said the man tried to hit other cars with the van as a way to make police stop.

Police have not said what charges the suspects could face.
