Shopping Trip Ends In Double Shooting

1 Victim Dies At Scene

UPDATED: 8:53 am CDT April 11, 2005

A shopping trip ended in a deadly shooting Sunday night in southwest Houston, officials told Local 2.

Double Shooting Scene

Police said a gunman approached two men inside a vehicle at the Shadow Ridge Apartments, located in the 7700 block of Greenash, shortly before 10 p.m.

The victims had just returned from a shopping trip.

"They had just come back from the store about five minutes earlier, pulled into the parking lot. They were talking momentarily with the driver's window down when they saw a car pull up behind them," said Sgt. Robert Torres, with the Houston Police Department.

A man walked up, pulled a gun and asked for money, according to authorities.

"The suspects were speaking Spanish to the victims, demanding their wallets," Torres said.

Investigators said the driver and passenger then got out of the vehicle to confront the robber.

That's when the gunman opened fire, officials said.

The driver died at the scene. The passenger was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.

The gunman and a passenger in his vehicle took off.

Two witnesses tried to chase after them, but they escaped in a silver or gray Honda Accord or Civic.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
