The death of a Deer Park toddler was a tragic reminder about the dangers of backyard pools, police said.

Officials said 2-year-old Haleana Comming died after falling into a pool full of murky water at her family's home in the 1400 block of Norwood at about 2:30 p.m.

Deer Park police said they were not sure how long Haleana had been under water before her parents realized she had fallen into the pool.

A neighbor, who asked Local 2 not to reveal his identity, said he warned Haleana's father to buy a tarp to cover up the pool.

"I tried to get him to buy a tarp to put on that thing. I keep a tarp on my pool. What's $300, $400? It's nothing compared to the baby that they just lost," the neighbor said.

Authorities have not said if the family would face criminal charges.
