A Spring Branch freshman student has been arrested and charged for allegedly plotting to bomb a neighboring high school, Local 2 reported Thursday.

Spring Branch Independent School District police arrested the Spring Woods High School student a week ago after they searched his home and found materials used to make bombs and a list of Northbrook Senior High School students and teachers he planned to kill.

"In our search, we found instructions on how to make the explosive device, plus we found a rough diagram of the commons area of Northbrook High School, along with a list, basically a hit list of people this individual wanted to get," Spring Branch ISD Chief Chuck Brawner said.

The hit list included the names of two Spring Branch ISD police officers, several students and made references to the April 1999 Columbine High School massacre.

District officials said the student attended Northbrook Senior High during the fall semester.

SBISD police said they received two tip calls about the student's plan -- one from a student who overheard a conversation about the plan and told his parents who then called police, and from a parent who overheard a suspicious conversation about the plot -- which prompted them to further investigate the incident.

The police credited the quick-thinking parents and student for helping avert the alleged plan.

The student's name has not been released because he is considered a minor. He was taken out of school by his own parents and is currently in the custody of the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.

Officials told Local 2 the student would be charged with criminal intent, a misdemeanor offense.

Administrators said a letter would be sent home with students this week to inform parents of the situation.
