Handicap Van Hits METRORail Train

Service Shut Down

A handicap van hit a METRORail train on the tracks near the Texas Medical Center Thursday afternoon, shutting down the rail service for a while, officials told Local 2.

The accident happened on the southbound tracks at Fannin and University shortly after 5 p.m. Officials said the van's driver pulled in front of the moving train, hitting it.

Two women inside the van were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.

The passenger is listed in serious condition. The driver's injuries are not considered serious. No one inside the train was hurt.

The wreck shut down the southbound lanes of the rail line until the accident was cleared.

The accident is under investigation.
