HOUSTON -- Police are searching for a Houston-area charter school educator accused of watching gay porn in class, Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Investigators said Roger Ward, a social studies teacher at the Raul Yzaguirre School For Success, reportedly watched pornography while students were in the classroom.
Students told police they caught their teacher looking at the videos after he would assign them work to do in class.
The Harris County district attorney charged Ward with display of harmful material to a minor Wednesday. He faces up to two years behind bars if convicted.
Local 2 reported Ward was also fired from a Houston Independent School District school for sexual comments he allegedly made in front of students and staff but no criminal charges were ever filed.
Houston police said they confiscated the computer Ward used to look at the pornography.
Investigators said although other people might have had access to the computer during the day, investigators said they can prove it was Ward who downloaded the images and streaming video by the time of day those images were viewed.
