WEBSTER, Texas -- A restaurant and bar known as a longtime favorite hangout for astronauts caught fire early Friday.
The blaze broke out near the roof of the Outpost Tavern, 18113 Kings Lyn at NASA Road One, shortly after 5 a.m. The owner said it happened near a neon sign that had been on the building for seven or eight years, so an electrical problem is suspected.
The building was closed at the time of the fire.No one was injured. The red barn-like structure used to be a hangar at Ellington Field and was later moved to its current location. It has been around since the 1940s.The tavern was featured in several movies, including "Space Cowboys," "Rocketman" and "The Challenger."
