4 taken into custody after multivehicle chase in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Several people were arrested and a handful were taken to the hospital including the children of an officer & their grandmother.

It all started with a chase in Montogmery County.

Precinct 4 deputies say the wild chase lasted nearly five miles with speeds as fast as 100 mph and ending at Firetower Road and SH 242.

Deputies spotted a stolen utility truck around 7 p.m. Monday, with another vehicle following close behind when they tried stopping both of them.

A chase ensued and deputies say that truck even tried to ram several patrol cars.

Eventually, deputies stopped the other vehicle that was following and took Randall Worth, 24, into custody. He was allegedly in possession of multiple baggies of methamphetamine and is charged with three felonies.

Authorities say the utility truck kept going and SH 242, the driver slammed into a woman and her two grandkids, the family of a police officer who are said to be OK.

Investigators say the driver of the stolen truck, John Weeks Jr., 46, jumped out and ran into the woods as deputies took his female passenger, Monica Mataisz, 46, into custody. Deputies found 2.1 grams of marijuana wax, 4.5 grams of Adderall and .5 grams of methamphetamine in the stolen truck. Weeks and Mataisz were charged with multiple felonies.

Weeks was eventually tracked down in the woods by law enforcement, who then took him into custody.

"He was driving very erratic at high rates of speed. At several points in time he aimed his vehicle towards officers, officers were able to reposition where they weren't struck. At some point in time he was trying to force other motorists off the road so it was a very dangerous pursuit," Constable Rowdy Hayden, Montogmery Co. Pct. 4, said.

The family of that officer is said to have suffered only minor injuries.
