HOUSTON – A Houston man is accused of impersonating a Texas Ranger and attempting to take a man's identification during the ruse.
Houston police said shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday Francis Lau, while wearing a Texas Ranger badge around his neck, approached a man in the parking lot at 13662 Westminster and told him he was conducting an investigation. Lau asked for the victim's driver's license and started typing the information into his phone, according to police.

Investigators said Lau tried unsuccessfully to take the man's phone, then fled in his vehicle. The victim followed Lau and called 911.
Police arrested Lau at an apartment complex on Richmond. Investigators said another man was with Lau at the time, but police did not release any other information about him.
Lau, 65, is charged with impersonating a public servant.
