CLEVELAND, Texas – Police have arrested four men accused of stealing more than $30,000 worth of watches from a jewelry store.
Lamonte Jermaine Haskett, Larry Wayne Brown, Nathaniel Earl Ross and Alfred James Godine were charged with burglary. According to investigators, the suspects left a trail of destruction and led police on a dangerous chase early Monday morning.
Store owner Bobby Coats received an alert from his alarm company that his store, Cleveland Jewelers, had been broken into.
Coats told investigators that a window had been busted and several men went inside and stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
"Mostly they got our watches, our Citizen watches and Seiko watches," he said. "They didn't have time to do anything else."
Police said as they were investigating, they noticed a silver SUV driving erratically. They tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off and a chase began, officials said. Investigators said the chase started in Cleveland and ended in Kingwood after reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
"I'm just thankful they don't come here during the day," Coats said. "I'd rather they'd come at night because I don't want to get hurt or be robbed at gunpoint."
Cleveland police said the suspects could be linked to other crimes in the Houston area.
Police were able to recover the stolen merchandise.
Suspect Nathaniel Ross was also charged with evading arrest.
