HOUSTON -

The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command has received its third and fourth gold coins of the 2012 season.

The gold coins were discovered on Thursday at red kettle sites located in northwest Houston.

A 1-ounce gold coin was discovered outside of a Kroger on Wirt Road wrapped inside of a $1 bill with an accompanying note that read "A child is born, Jesus! Merry Christmas!"

The second 1/4-ounce gold coin was dropped inside of a kettle outside of a Walgreen's on T.C. Jester.

The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign is the largest and oldest charitable fundraiser of its kind in the United States.

The funds raised locally by the nonprofit organization benefit programs and services operated by the Greater Houston Area Command across Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.
