PASADENA, Texas -- Pasadena officials are cracking down on bandit signs that clutter city property, but they can't do it without the public's help, News2Houston reported Monday.Although these homemade signs, advertising everything from free pets to garage sales, are not meant to cause a nuisance, officials said the build-up over time cause an eyesore for the city."Bless their heart, probably just kids looking for dogs, but they saturate these intersections with these things," said Mike McAnnally, a Pasadena building official.
In addition, bandit signs are illegal and can cause distractions for drivers.Officials are asking for volunteers to help clean up the city. They hope volunteers will pitch in by removing illegally placed signs from city property. This will allow city workers to focus on their regular jobs. After the signs are removed, a city volunteer or employee will call the phone number listed on the announcement to let people know that the sign has been taken down."You've got taxpayers out there paying my staff to clean up commercial interest," McAnnally said.Volunteers will not be paid for their work, but McAnnally hopes contributing to a cleaner community will provide them with long-lasting rewards."No one likes to live in neighborhood cluttered up in signs," McAnnally said.If you would like to volunteer, call (713) 475-7259.
