Police said the suspect held up the Liquor Mart on Broadway and Bellfort at gunpoint when he scuffled with owner Paul Barnard.

Barnard shot the suspect.

"He is the nicest man. I don't understand why they tried to rob him," customer Melissa Hernandez said.

Frequent customers of the store said the suspect got what he deserved.

"I was just shocked. I can't believe it. I was really worried about him because he is real cool. I go in there and talk to him all the time," customer Avis Clunt said about the owner. "When you (rob someone), you deserve what you get."

Two off-duty police officers, who were eating at a restaurant next door to the store, arrested the suspect.

The suspect was shot once in the stomach and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

So far, no charges have been filed.

Deputies Need Help Finding Attempted Robbery Suspect

Harris County deputies identified a man who they said attempted to rob a convenience store on Homestead in May.

Frank Jones

Deputies said Frank Jones, 38, pretended to have a gun covered by a newspaper.

However, when the newspaper fell and showed only his finger, the clerk slapped him.

Officials said Jones is still on the run, but will be charged with two counts of robbery when he is caught.

Thief Robs Pasadena Restaurant

A restaurant robber was caught on tape placing an order inside a Subway restaurant on Shaver in Pasadena Tuesday.

A surveillance camera caught the man pulling out a gun and demanding money.

Three employees ran out the back door of the store while the robber walked out the front door.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
