According to a University of Georgia heat study, linemen are the most at risk of getting heat stroke on the football field. The study looked at 123 documented football players who died on the field from 1969 to 2009. It found the average weight of the player was 250 pounds with a BMI of 33 (which is considered overweight). The average age is 16.76 years old, and 86 percent of on-field deaths are of players 18 or younger. The conclusion was coaches need to watch every player, but linemen need special attention at practice.
