HPD officers deliver holiday cash to drivers

HOUSTON – Getting a traffic ticket is not the way to celebrate the holidays.

But Tuesday in Houston, officers handed out cash instead of tickets.

"Instead of them getting a ticket, we're going to give them some cash, and I think it's going to make their day big time," Officer Gerald Robertson said.

Ginger Navy was randomly pulled over on the way to visit her daughter at Texas Children's Hospital.

"It's going to make a big difference because she's a teenager, so teenagers have big wants," she said.

One woman they pulled over was in tears. She thought she was headed to jail. But then, she got the good news.

When she was told she was getting $100 her tears quickly turned to laughter.

"I thought he was joking," she said. "Oh my goodness."

All the money came from an anonymous donor.

One man the officers pulled over, a rabbi, is paying the good deed forward.

"It's nice some people are doing good things and distributing charity and I'm going to give it for good use. I'm going to help other people with it."
