Officers Discover 'Marijuana Growth Factory' In Home
HPD Narcotics Officers Remove 33 Mature Plants, Arrest Renter
A Harris County Precinct 5 constable received a tip around 1 a.m. from a neighbor who heard a woman's scream come from the home. The constable said he looked through one of the home's windows after he arrived and saw what he believed to be marijuana plants growing inside. The constable somehow confirmed the find with Harris County and Houston Police Department narcotics officials, allowing HPD narcotics officers to get a search and arrest warrant for the location.Investigators said they set up a surveillance operation outside the home, where they witnessed a man go into the home and leave 45 minutes later.
Officers pulled over that man and reportedly found marijuana and $2,000 inside the vehicle. He was arrested. When officers returned to the home to execute the warrant, they found what they called a marijuana growing factory inside.Authorities said the suspect arrested during the traffic stop rents the home.Narcotic officers said the home appeared to be used as a place to grow the plants because no one lived inside it and there was no furniture. They also said the yard was well-maintained to try and make the home not look suspicious.Investigators said the only items found inside the home were the 33 mature marijuana plants, lights, water and other materials used to grow the plants.Officials have not said what charges the suspect could face. The incident remains under investigation.Copyright 2004 by Click2Houston.com.
