HUMBLE, Texas -

Three children and their mother were hospitalized after being hit by a car Monday night, according to Humble Police.

The three children, ages 5, 6 and 8, were playing outside when the car hit them inside the Meadowbrook Mobile Home Community in the 2700 block of Wilson Road near Atascocita Road, police said.  Their mother was also grazed.

"I heard brakes screech and then I just heard people screaming," neighbor Stephan Gudiel said.  "I was actually in shock to see that happening."

Gudiel said the woman driving the car hit the family trying to avoid his cousin's van parked along the street.  There are no sidewalks on the street.

"The (6-year-old boy) got the worst of it," Guidel said. "The kid's forehead was completely ... I could see his skull. It was horrible. It was something I don't want to ever see again."

According to police, the boy was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was in stable condition on Tuesday afternoon. His two sisters and his mother were also taken to the hospital but later released.

The driver voluntarily submitted a blood sample, but police said they don't believe alcohol or speed was a factor.  She was not cited.
