HOUSTON -

Three employees of a restaurant in west Houston suffered gunshot wounds during a shooting late Wednesday and one of the men died at the hospital.

The shots were fired at around 10 p.m. at La Hacienda Restaurant on Memorial Drive near Dairy Ashford Road. 

Houston police say it began when a suspect approached one of the employees in an alley behind the restaurant and demanded money.

"A suspect approached an individual in the alley.  The suspect started chasing the individual into the restaurant," said Officer K. Winningham, HPD Homicide.  "The individual and two other individuals were shot inside of the restaurant and then the suspect fled the scene."

The restaurant was open, but no customers were inside.

All three employees were taken to the hospital, where one of the men died. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
