3 hospitalized after bus driver loses consciousness

Two Kingwood High School students, driver expected to be OK

HUMBLE, Texas – Two Kingwood High School students and a bus driver were taken to local hospitals after the bus driver lost consciousness on Beltway 8 near JFK.

Jamie Mount, a spokesperson for Humble ISD, said the Kingwood High School's Girls Cross Country Team was heading back from a morning track meet when their bus driver lost consciousness just before noon Saturday.

The bus veered to the shoulder and then came to a stop. Mount said the bus driver and one student were taken to the hospital by ambulance and another student was taken to another hospital by private vehicle.

Officials said both girls have since been released.

Mount said the bus driver's loss of consciousness is believed to be heat related, but he is expected to be OK.

A student who was on the bus told Local 2 two of her teammates took action after noticing what had happened to their driver. She credits a 15 year old with bringing the bus to a stop and preventing more injuries.
