3 family members shot during violent home invasion

Four armed thieves escape

HOUSTON – Three family members were shot during a break-in at their northwest Harris County house.

The crime happened at a home in the 11100 block of Fairway Drive in the gated community of Heron Lakes Estates at around 8:30 p.m. Monday. According to investigators, a 47-year-old father, his 21-year-old son and a 53-year-old male family member were having a beer inside their garage when they were surrounded by three armed men.

The victims said two of the men began attacking them while the other went inside their home and tried to rob a woman who was upstairs. Deputies said when the woman told them they didn't have a safe or any cash in the house, a gunman shot the trio before fleeing the scene.

Harris County deputies said all of the thieves got away.

Neighbors said the family owns several nearby gas stations.

The son was released from the hospital on Tuesday morning and is recovering at home. His father and the other family member remained hospitalized in critical condition.

"Some people -- they tried to rob us and we got shot. That's all," said the son when he returned home.

"They target you because of the gas station owners?" KPRC Local 2 asked.

"No comment," the son said.

The victims' names were not released.
