3 charged in Royal High School drug case
Pills given out, sold were combination of oxycontin, haldol
Three people have been charged in connection with a drug case at Royal High School.
Royal Independent School District officials said pills were given and sold to students at Royal High School in Brookshire.
Several students had to go to emergency rooms after they took drugs they got at school on or around Jan. 10.
School district officials said the symptom of the pills, a combination of oxycontin and haldol, were delayed for several hours. The drugs can cause slowness in breathing and/or heart rate, burn the brain and possibly death. Symptoms include convulsions, seizures, headaches, stomach pain and paralysis.
Two high school students and an adult have been arrested and charged with delivery of a controlled substance. Since the offenses were allegedly committed in a drug-free zone, the potential punishment carries the state jail felony penalty.
School district officials said the students who possessed or consumed the drugs would be dealt with according to guidelines in the student code of conduct. Punishment may result in placement in a disciplinary alternative education program and/or expulsion.
