HOUSTON – Residents who live in the Meyerland area near Braeswood are on alert after three separate armed robberies were reported.
In each case the suspects brandished a knife or a pipe, threatened the victims and demanded their personal belongings.
On November 5, a resident was robbed in front of his home on Loch Lomond Street. He told authorities that he was getting out of his car when a vehicle drove up and the passenger jumped out.
The suspect waved a knife and demanded the man's belongings, which included his car and house keys.
Later that same evening, suspects fitting the same description robbed two women at knifepoint in the 3300 block of Merrick.
The victims told authorities that the men drove up in a silver vehicle, the passenger jumped out and threatened them with a knife and grabbed both of their purses.
Then on November 8, two students were walking in the 9400 block of Millbury when a tan vehicle pulled up behind them.
Two men jumped out of the vehicle and demanded the students' backpacks and personal belongings. The students said the suspects threatened them with a pipe.
The Meyerland Improvement Association has sent a letter to residents about the incident. However, many residents believe their neighborhood is safe.
"We've had sporadic incidents in the past, every neighborhood does," said Scott Minchen. "This has been a safe neighborhood."
Minchen says the area hires contract deputies to patrol the streets near their homes and to be on the lookout for potential crime problems.
