Jurors To Decide If Wife Murdered Husband Or Killed In Self-Defense

Prosecutors Say Money Motivated Murder; Defense Says Abuse Led To Stabbing

POSTED: Wednesday, February 25,
UPDATED: 8:41 am CST February 25, 2004

Jurors in the trial of a woman accused of stabbing her husband nearly 200 times will have to decide if the woman's actions were in self-defense or murder.

Susan Wright

During opening statements Tuesday, prosecutors told jurors Susan Wright lured her husband, Jeffrey, to bed for sex, then stabbed him while he was tied up.

The body of Wright's husband was found partially buried in the couple's back yard in January 2003.

Prosecutors said money, in the form of a $200,000 life insurance policy, motivated Wright to kill.

Defense attorneys said their client was being abused by her husband.

If convicted of murder, Wright will face five to 99 years in prison.
