24 illegal immigrants found after traffic stop

HOUSTON – A traffic stop in southwest Houston ended in a bust of two dozen illegal immigrants Thursday, officials said.

Officers tried to pull over an SUV that was moving erratically around 5 a.m., but the driver did not immediately stop. When he eventually pulled over, people started jumping out of the vehicle and running. Some of them ran to a house on Edgemoor Drive at Hillcroft Street, investigators said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents showed up a short time later and took 24 illegal immigrants into custody, part of a human smuggling ring in the home.

Women and children were among the immigrants, officials said.

ICE agents said the 17 males, five females and two juvenile males were from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
