    EVENT DESCRIPTION: The Arthritis Foundation's South Texas Chapter is setting the stage for wine and food lovers from across the country at its sixth annual Taste of the Best, Wines & Foods of the World benefit, scheduled for September 4-6, 2003. The Grand Tasting takes place Friday night. This is an open wine tasting affair for the general public featuring wines from over 60 wineries and vineyards. Guests will have the chance to meet some of the industries top wine makers and sample three to four wines from each winery. Chefs from Houston's premier restaurants will be on hand to create special snacks to compliment each wine. A silent auction will feature bidding for exotic travel getaways, complimentary fine dining, vintage wines and precious collectibles.

    EVENT DESCRIPTION: APPLICATIONS SOUGHT FOR ARTS and CRAFTS SHOW. The 13th Annual Montgomery County TEXAS EXTENSION EDUCATION ASSOCIATION Arts and Crafts Show will be held in Conroe at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7, 2003. The proceeds for this event benefit the Montgomery County 4-H Program. Applications are currently being sought for vendors who are interested in selling their handcrafted work. Booth prices are $80.00 for a 10'x10' indoor A/C climate controlled space (first come, first serve basis) and $80.00 for a 10'x20' enclosed pavilion space (NOT climate controlled). About 100 booths are expected and will feature items including handmade quilts, woodcrafted furniture and decorative items, personalized items, jewelry, floral wreaths, seasonal items, children's toys and furniture, angels, ceramics, painted wood, knit items, dolls, soft sculptures, candles, and a variety of other specialities. Concession stands will be available. There are also RV spaces available for $10.00 for the show. Vendors can expect a highly-advertised event drawing an above average crowd.     EVENT DESCRIPTION: A Day in the Life of Africa is an exhibition of 150 photographs taken by nearly 100 of the world's most renowned photojournalists, who fanned across Africa to capture the daily life, landscape and beauty of the continent during a 24-hour period. These photojournalists visited 53 African nations on Feb. 28, 2002, to film the essence and infinite diversity of the continent, capturing more than 50,000 vivid images. Houston is one of the stops on the exhibition's six-city U.S. tour, which is a component of a global photo-documentary project, A Day in the Life of Africa, the latest in a phenomenally popular series of photography books first launched two decades ago. All profits from the book benefit the Day in the Life of Africa AIDS Education Fund. In conjunction with the exhibition, the book will be sold at B. Dalton Bookseller Galleria, Foley's Galleria and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Shops.

    EVENT DESCRIPTION: Katy Performing Art Society's concert entitled "Now Come the Names: A Tribute to the Victims of September 11" is a musical tribute to the victims and everyday heroes of the attacks of September 11. The free concert benefits the Katy Volunteer Fire Department. All donations received on behalf of the department will be put into the Fire Fighter Relief Fund. Katy Fire Chief Richard Lenius and his department will be honored guests at the concert. City of Katy Mayor Doyle Callender will also attend.
