UPDATED: 10:58 a.m. CDT August 1, 2003

A fire broke out early Friday at a northeast Houston store, officials told News2Houston.

Family Dollar Store

Flames were spotted at the Family Dollar store, 5706 Lockwood Drive, shortly after midnight.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly. It started in the employee restroom and was sparked by an electrical fan that short-circuited, according to authorities.

The damage estimates range from $5,000 to $10,000, mostly from water.

The fire was contained to the side and employee areas of the store and did not spread to the main sales floor.
