SUGAR LAND, Texas -- Crime hit close too home for a Fort Bend County attorney on Thursday, Local 2 reported.
Sugar Land police said they received a 911 call from Roy Cordes' home on Country Club Boulevard near Sugar Creek Boulevard early in the afternoon.
Cordes' wife, who has Alzheimer's disease, and her caregiver were at home when there was a knock at the door around 11 a.m.
The caregiver opened the door and two men forced their way inside, detectives said.
"Two days ago, someone had knocked on the door and she did not open the door. Today, she let her guard down," said Cordes.
Police said the intruders tied up the caregiver and ransacked the home. They left with four television sets, phones, money and Cordes' wife's wedding ring set, which was pulled off her finger., detectives said
"You never expect this to happen to you. You see it on TV and hear about it and your heart goes out to the victims, but you don't expect it to happen to you, " said Cordes.
The intruders' faces were covered, so the victims did not get a good description of them, investigators said.
