HOUSTON -- A woman who was busted selling bundles of marijuana after getting off duty as a Houston police officer is going to jail, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
Traci Tennarse, 31, was arrested on Jan. 10, 2008, after HPD set up a sting at the La Quinta Motel on Interstate 10 East at Federal Road. Investigators said she took $17,000 from a buyer who asked for 50 pounds of marijuana.
She was charged with felony delivery of marijuana. Tennarse's attorney said his client was ashamed of what she did.
"She said everything that she did was dumb and stupid," attorney Robert Jones said.
She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Tennarse's boyfriend was also arrested in the sting. Her attorney said she committed the crime because she was blinded by love.
"You have apparently was a young female who is college educated, who had worked two or three jobs at one time, came from a home with a single parent," Jones said. "Met a person almost twice her age, fell in love, learned bad things about him."
She was fired by HPD after her arrest.
