BROOKSHIRE, Texas -- Two people have been found dead at a home in Brookshire and police are trying to figure out who killed them, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Brookshire police said the bodies were found in the 3200 block of Third Street on Thursday.
Detectives said Stanley Jackson, 50, and Janella Edwards, 41, were shot to death.
"We don't understand it because they loved and gave of themselves. They always put themselves last," relative Shirley Williams said.
Jackson, a concrete driver, and Edwards, who worked at a department store, were well known in this small community.
"Both victims were from very large families, so the community takes it very very hard," Police Chief Joe Prejean said.
The couple was babysitting their goddaughters, ages 6 and 9, who are the children of Brookshire Mayor Joseph Vaughn, when they were killed. The girls woke up to use the restroom, heard a knock at the door and then found Jackson's body.
The knock was from the girls' mother, who called police.
There were no signs of forced entry into the home, police said.
Investigators said they suspect foul play was involved. They said they don't know the motive for the killing.
