Houston police said Latasha Smith went to a Shell gas station on Collingsworth Street at the 3500 block of Eastex Freeway at about 10:30 a.m.

After she went inside to pay for the gas, Smith came outside to find her ex-boyfriend, Eugene Richardson, 30, waiting for her inside her car, investigators said.

Police said Richardson forced her into the vehicle and took off.

Some customers at the gas station flagged down an officer and a police chase ensued.

The chase lasted about 20 minutes and ended on Aeropark Drive near Crosswinds Drive.

A K-9 unit then chased Richardson, who tried to escape on foot. He was taken into custody a short time later.

Houston police said charges pending against Richardson include assault, evading with a vehicle and possibly kidnapping.
