HOUSTON -- A burglary at a Pearland home Tuesday led to a SWAT standoff, police told KPRC Local 2.
Pearland police said a person called 911 after he saw a man break a window at a trailer home in the 1900 block of Garden Road shortly before noon.
Officers arrived at the home and arrested one man who was found at the front of the home, police said.
Investigators said they weren't able to immediately determine if there was a weapon involved, or a second burglary suspect.
SWAT officers were called at to the home as a precaution. Police blocked off Garden Road between Butler Road and the Brookside city limits.
"We had residents that were here shelter in place ... had school kids scheduled to be dropped off diverted to an area school," Lt. Onesimo Lopez said.
After more than two hours of trying to make contact with someone inside, gas canisters were tossed into the home, police said.
Just before officers went inside, a second suspect emerged from the home, investigators said. He suffered minor facial irritation from the gas.
Police have not released any identifying information about the suspects.
