HOUSTON -- A Houston radio host is running nearly 500 miles across Texas to raise money for children with cancer, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The New 93Q morning show host Kevin Kline started his trek at the Dallas Cotton Bowl on Sunday. On Tuesday, he passed through Waco and logged 107 miles. He has 390 more miles to go.
Kline will run approximately 39 miles a day, up to 10 hours a day, for 13 days, braving the wind, cold and Texas hills. His journey will take him through Austin, San Antonio and he will cross the finish line in Houston at Texas Children's Hospital on New Year's Day.
His goal is to raise $500,000 for the
Texas Children's Cancer Center, which is the largest pediatric cancer and hematology research and treatment center in the country.
"Countless times you'll hear, 'We are so blessed because someone we know has it harder than we do.' I don't know what is harder than watching your kid suffer through chemotherapy or radiation," Kline said. "When I go through extreme discomfort on this run, that is what I am going to be thinking about -- the kids who get poked with needles 100 times a day. What I am going through and experiencing will be nothing compared to what they have to go through on a daily basis."
Pediatric cancer patients cheered on Kline in Dallas.
Kline's wife, Trish, is following him in a trailer and said Tuesday that Kline is doing well and inspired by the families that come out to see him in the towns he runs through.
Donations for pediatric cancer research can be made at
www.stridesacrosstexas.org. The Web site is also providing a live stream of Kline's journey.
Kline is co-founder of the
Snowdrop Foundation, an organization that raises money for pediatric cancer patients and research.
