HOUSTON -- Major changes have been made at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center after a teenager sneaked a gun into the facility, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
An investigation showed that a metal detector at the facility had not been working for nearly three years.
County Judge Ed Emmett recommended that Executive Director Harvey Hetzel and Deputy Director Bob Husbands retire. Board members have unanimously approved those recommendations. Their retirements become effective on Dec. 31.
Tom Brooks was appointed acting executive director and Terry Snow will replace Husbands, both an an interim basis. There will likely be a nationwide search to find permanent replacements for both positions.
A new working metal detector has been installed at the downtown facility.
