HOUSTON -- A teenage daughter of a woman accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband has been charged in connection with the crime, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
Ashley Shamp, 18, was charged with solicitation of capital murder. She surrendered to authorities Friday night.
Her mother Catherine Shamp, 38, was charged with solicitation of capital murder on Wednesday after an informant told Harris County deputies that she tried to hire him for $20,000.
Investigators said they then determined that Ashley Shamp was involved in the planning of her father's murder.
Deputies said the teenager sent text messages to the hit man and discussed payment.
"The probable cause in the courtroom states that (Catherine Shamp) contacted her daughter's ex-boyfriend to take care of Mr. Shamp, and to make sure he was never found again," Harris County prosecutor Kari Allen said.
In court on Friday, prosecutors said Catherine Shamp wanted the hit to look like a home invasion and was willing to be beat up in order to appear like a victim.
Officials said that after the crime, Shamp had planned to run away with their children.
A judge increased Catherine Shamp's bond from $30,000 to $75,000 because she was considered a flight risk.
If Catherine Shamp posts bond, she will have to wear an ankle monitor, have no contact with her husband and only supervised visits with her kids.
