FRIENDSWOOD, Texas -- A former Harris County deputy has been accused of exposing himself to children, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Charles David Easterling, 51, of Friendswood, was charged with indecency with a child by exposure, a third-degree felony.
Investigators said Easterling was standing naked in his back yard in the Wedgewood subdivision on Nov. 7 at about 5 p.m. His back yard does not have a fence and children playing basketball nearby saw Easterling and told a parent, officials said.
"Yes, he was on his property, but the fence is down where others can see him. There's no privacy for him and it caused an alarm for children," said Karen Peterson with the Friendswood Police Department.
A warrant for Easterling's arrest was issued on Monday. He surrendered at 7 a.m. on Tuesday at the Harris County Jail in downtown Houston.
"It's not just plain disorderly conduct because he was seen by children, which indicates that he had a wanton disregard for who would see him," Peterson said.
He was released on a $5,000 bond.
Neighbors could not believe the allegations.
"I'm in shock, especially when I heard it was a deputy," Kelley Kindre said. "We live directly behind the school. Our back yard looks out at the playground behind the school, so my child is always playing out there."
Easterling was a deputy with Harris County Precinct 8 for 24 years until he quit on Friday. Precinct 8 officials said they are working closely with the Friendswood Police Department.
