A 79-year-old woman was killed in a chain reaction wreck in southeast Houston, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said a Chevrolet Impala, a Ford Focus and a Subaru Outback were traveling northbound in the 3100 block of the Gulf Freeway at about 6:55 p.m. Friday.

The Subaru stopped because of heavy traffic, police said. The Ford was traveling behind the Subaru and also stopped.

Investigators said the driver of the Chevrolet changed lanes and hit the Ford. The Ford hit the Subaru.

Anna Olivarez, 79, was a backseat passenger in the Ford. She was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where she died.

The driver of the Chevrolet was ticketed for failure to control speed.
